President's Message Dear Members, On behalf of the new council, I warmly welcome you to the Galle Medical Association. Started as Galle Clinical Society, GMA has a long history among professional organizations in Sri Lanka, only second to the SLMA. It is the main professional organization involved with CME among doctors as well as other health care professionals in the Southern province. Annual academic sessions are the highlight of the academic calendar and it will be held at the beginning of Oct 2012. Additionally, Foundation sessions of the Ceylon Collage of Physicians are scheduled for 27th July 2012. Prevention of NCDs is the theme of this year and we plan to conduct a series of training sessions and awareness programs targeting main stakeholders in the prevention of NCDs. These include nurses, teachers, office workers and school children. Approach from different angles and empowering people to take care of their NCDs by modifying the current life style will help to minimize the mortality, morbidity and health care costs related to these diseases. Two exciting events will be organized to enjoy the life outside working environment together with your family members. We hope you will join these activities and get the maximum out of them.
